For poets and short story writers:

  • The magazine is open to any genre or form of poem or short story.

  • Please send no more than three poems or two stories per submission.

  • Our limit for short fiction is 2000 words.

  • Send only original work for which you hold the copyright.

  • All unsolicited work must be unpublished. By ‘published’, we mean work that is visible on any website excluding private social media accounts.

  • Attach a 20-word, third-person bio.

  • While we accept simultaneous submissions, please notify us immediately if your work has been accepted elsewhere.

  • Interpret accepts submissions in any language from anywhere in the world. Our editor is a professional translator of French, Catalan, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. Writers in these languages do not need to supply an English translation.

  • If you write in a language other than those mentioned above, your work must be accompanied by a full translation into English.

  • All successful submissions will be published first in their original language, then in English translation.

  • Interpret is paying all authors published in our seventh issue. We pay each contributor, including translators, £10. If you would like to support us in our aim of paying all writers, you can pre-order our seventh issue here.

  • All published authors receive a copy of the magazine.

For translators and anthologists:

  • We are proud to showcase the best in new literary translation. If you are a translator and would like to contribute to an upcoming issue, please email us with your working languages and a sample of your work.

  • If you are the translator of a previously published author and would like to submit both your translation and the original text, please contact our editor.

  • If you are the editor of an anthology and would like to see your authors published in Interpret, please  contact our editor.
